Fruit

Do you know what flower this is? I don't think I've ever seen (or noticed) it before. It looks so much like a pohutukawa, doesn't it? The clue is in the title; scroll down if you still don't know.

It's a feijoa (Feijoa sellowiana)! If you're not from NZ or South America, find out more about it here. It's a delicious fruit that reminds me of the taste of a guava, perfect for stewing or having feijoa feasts (just eating too much of it in one sitting, like my boys like to do!).

Gorgeous! We have a tree full of these blossoms at the moment too - pity we will have moved before they ripen into fruit in March!

they're also in south africa. there was a bush just next to our classroom when we were little and we used to pretend the flowers were jewels and wear them as rings... thanks for reminding me :)
