High Tea

Every year around this time about 10 of my girlfriends and I get together for a tea party. It originally started out as an excuse to use the lovely silver cutlery and floral china I had collected, and has ended up becoming an annual event we all look forward to. It's a great chance to sit down and pretend we're ladies. We like to bake and glam up a little and reminice about the year that's been and the one that's coming. Saturday was the 6th one; a perfect autumn day with great food and great friends.
Today was time for Kraftbomb again; a bit slow for me, even though it was busy. Had a great time chatting to my neighbours though, Polly from Polly in a Box and Charles from Jellybones (they make Gummy Bear jewellery, yummy). I also got some of my work in a cool little gallery called 'Next Door' earlier this week; it's on Hinemoa Rd in Birkenhead if you're on the North Shore. Have a great week :)

Reading tea leaves

I'm looking forward to Saturday, when the 6th Annual Tea Party will take place on our veranda. Imagine embroidered tablecloths, mismatched crockery and little silver cake forks. Add ladies in dresses and lots of gossip, and you've got the picture.

The tree of being far, far away

Yes! I'm now on Toggle, so if you'd like to buy one of my Golden Book journals or cute mirrors and you can't make it to Kraftbomb next Sunday, you know where to go. Find them respectively under 'Paper' and 'Accessories' on the Toggle site. I've got to take some better photos though, not sure those will sell my products!

I did some cathartic embroidery the other night, just wanted to share the result. A close family member in South Africa died in a tragic accident a couple of weeks ago, leaving behind his pregnant fiance. I felt so very far away, and it's been quite hard for me to deal with his death. I suppose this little picture is my way of saying goodbye...

It's a crewel world

A few months ago I raved about a book I found in the library, called The New Crewel. Well, I actually went and did some crewelling. True to form though, I decided to bypass all the small projects and went straight for the 'let's make two big cushions for a wedding gift' as a first project.

Some things I now know about crewelling:
  1. It takes longer than you think.

  2. You'll never look at a needle threader in the same way again. Should be made of gold, those things.

  3. It's much more enjoyable than you think.

So Zade and Jaz ended up with just the one cushion with a beautiful flax flower design, copied from their stunning wedding invitations.

If you're at all interested in crewelling, or want to know how to transfer a complicated design onto a thick fabric (if you can't rely on a light box), see my PDF tutorial on the topic. (Hope the link works; PDFs are kind of new to me!)

I'm back...

We've just come back from a most relaxing break, attending two weddings and spending nine nights in four different baches (beach houses) in Northland. The picture up here is of Horseshoe Bay, where our friends Jaz and Zade just got married, and which I'm sure you'll agree is one of the most beautiful places anywhere, ever.
And to top it all off, when we got home, the figs were literally dripping off the tree, so ripe they were almost caramelised. Not a single bird peck, which must mean the CD trick actually works!
And now onto other business: the mirrors... Thanks so much for your comments guys, it's great to hear you like them. Congratulations to Rosina Lee; she's a lady who loves her handbags, so the mirror should come in handy! I'll have them for sale on Toggle and etsy soon; will post their arrival sometime in the week.
Ok, gotta go, Flight of the Conchords is on!!!

A gift for you, just because

Ooh, it's been a busy week. I've been burning the midnight oil, doing some long-overdue administration for my little old business. Won't bore you... Now for the good news: I've got a brand-new product. It's just what every girl needs; a little pocket mirror with a cute picture on the back. And to celebrate, I'm giving away one. You can choose between a little rosebud embroidery and a bunny by Richard Scarry. We're going away for a bit over a week, so I'll check this blog again on Monday the 16th, and randomly pick a winner. Pass this on, the more the merrier I say; international entries gladly accepted. Just remember to add your email address if you're not on Blogger. Good luck!
